Pulpo

To the Death!

From the owners of beloved Floriana in Dupont Circle comes the second concept in their restaurant group, Pulpo.  Spanish inspired tapas are served in an expansive yet warm, cozy space on two levels, with exposed brick walls, tattooed murals and dim candlelight.

The namesake dish of pulpo, or octopus ($12) is dramatic, suggesting you are the victor after a battle with the Kraken.  You might even hear this as you dine.

The firm and tender poached organ is served over fingerling potatoes, salty squid ink, tangy mustard greens and spicy brava sauce–though it won’t be applauding anytime soon. Even after death, it may exact its revenge by getting ink all over your shirt.

My wife and I had dinner there last week…after eating we were still starving (smallest portions at the highest of prices) so, we went out for a second attempt at dinner…we called it a night after grabbing a hamburger. I would be ashamed to put these small plates down in front of customers…the strip steak totaled maybe 1/8th of a pound…and the worst thing on the menu is the “Ravioli” how in the hell they can call those things a Ravioli beats me! We will never go back, never!!! trust me…stay away from this place.
