I visited DC Harvest in Washington, DC’s, H Street Corridor on the right day because their Tuesday daily plate featuring Old Bay Fried Chicken was Heaven on Earth! A warm, friendly, restaurant with fresh, local ingredients and great cocktails is all a girl needs to spend the evening with a good friend. The staff was very welcoming and warm, making you feel at home and explaining the seasonal menu thoroughly.

Each item I tried was fresh and well cooked. Even the oysters served with a watermelon mignonette, which I usually wouldn’t order in a month that has an “r” in it, were fresh and not too briny. Otherwise known as the beginner’s oyster. The diverse menu offered everything you could ask for from a home cooked meal, but at this house you have to choose what you are feeling that night. Of course, I ordered the daily plate of Old Bay Fried Chicken with a vinegar based veggie slaw. I ordered an additional side of Roasted Beet Salad to complete my meal. The chicken was cooked to perfection, seasoned all the way through and the accompanied slaw gave a great contrast to the salty Old Bay seasoning. There is no other word than to describe the beets as “Fresh”. Mixed with olives, parsley, fried chickpeas, and sheep’s milk cheese, it was the perfect side to cleanse the palate.

This seasons daily plates are:
Monday and Tuesday: Old Bay Fried Chicken with Veggie Slaw
Wednesday and Thursday: Smoked Braised Brisket with Sautéed Zucchini
Friday: Whole Fish with Watercress Salad
Saturday: Grilled Tavern Steak with a Spicy Steak Sauce accompanied by a Farm Salad
Sunday: Whole Wheat Pappardelle, Mom’s Bologense, with Ricotta

Try them out and tell them Girl Meets Food sent you, and trust me they’ll recommend Honey, I’m Home but try the New- Fangled — Delish!
