Charlie Palmer starts the Capitol Countdown menu this week, featuring the favorite dishes and heritages of Eisenhower, Kennedy, Carter, Clinton, The Bama, even everyone’s favorite lovable crook, Nixon. If your invitation to the State Dinner was lost in the mail, this is the closest thing to pulling a Salahi without causing an international incident.
From now until Saturday, January 26, each week showcases a different presidential dish ($28-35) for dinner. Some standouts? Eisenhower’s oxtail crepinette with root vegetables in a red wine and horseradish broth; H.W. Bush’s butter-poached lobster with Szawlowski potatoes, house-made linguica, sweet corn and kale; Clinton’s chicken fried steak with collard greens, cord pudding and mushroom jus; and during Inauguration Week, Obama’s Hawaiian rib-eye marinated in pineapple and soy, with sweet potato gnocchi and crispy taro root.
